So that little blue and white insignia you see on our website, and on our shop, the one that says, Blue Seal of Excellence, ASE Recognized Business?
That’s not a bumper sticker. Or a Christmas decoration gone rogue.
ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence, and that badge is something we wear (occasionally) and display (always) with pride. And for your assurance. It’s so you know that you and your car are in the care of an automotive technician. A car mechanic who’s not only been nationally recognized but certified. Certified by the National Institute of ASE.
It’s our way of letting you know that we’re top in our field. And trustworthy. And we’re proud to let people know it as well. Because getting certified, while it may not be as arduous to come by as a PhD or a medical degree, it does require no little amount of time and effort—and being good at what we do: fixing cars.
One thing the ASE certification verifies is that we’ve been certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence on every mechanical and electrical component and system. And at Master Tech, every one of us has been ASE Certified.
Since its introduction in 1972, the ASE Certification has become the standard of excellence for employing every automotive professional. Automotive professionals who carry this certification are seen as experts in their field, and as having a high level of professionalism, proper training, and a commitment to continuing their automotive education.
As for how we had to go about gaining that certification, the ASE has very specific requirements and criteria. We had to show at least two years of automotive work experience, and we had to complete and pass one of the specialty exams. These latter exams came in the areas of engine performance, heating and cooling systems, automatic transmission/transaxle, steering and suspension, electrical systems, and other subjects (there are eight altogether).
And passing once is not a lifetime deal. ASE Certifications must be renewed every five years. Which means we have to stay on our toes, and keep learning.
We like learning. We love working on cars. And we love being the best at what we do. And we want our customers to know just how important that is—being ASE Certified—to us and to you.
